C-USA Men's Tennis Championship: Tulsa 4, UCF 3

ORLANDO, Fla. - Top seed and No. 23 Tulsa edged host and No. 9 seed UCF in quarterfinal action of the 2012 Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship. The two teams split the single matches, 3-3, before the Golden Hurricane claimed the doubles point to advance to semifinal action Saturday at the UCF Tennis Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Tulsa (16-8) scored the doubles points by winning at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Coming off the courts first was sophomore Japie De Klerk and freshman Alejandro Espejo. The duo eliminated UCF's junior Juan Bolona and sophomore Matthew Gladstone, 8-1. Tulsa juniors Grant Ive and junior Tristan Jackson defeated juniors Jorge Blasco and junior Mario Samson, 7-5, for the victory.
UCF (10-13) scored the first two points of the match at the No. 5 and 6 singles positions as Samson downed Jackson of Tulsa, 6-7 (1), 6-2. Senior Joe Delinks tallied a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over freshman Alejandro Espejo. Tulsa got on the board at the No. 3 singles as senior and No. 85 Ashley Watling edged sophomore Mitch Thams, 6-4, 6-1.
Ive knotted the score at 2-2 for the Golden Hurricane with a three-set win over Bolona, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 , at No. 4 singles. The Knights bounced back as junior Blasco picked up a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles over DeKlerk. Single action concluded at 3-3, forcing doubles play, as Tulsa's top-ranked player, No. 94 junior Clifford Marsland survived a three-set battle against sophomore Erik Brunskog, 0-6, 6-3, 7-5.
