Tulsa sophomore Tyler Henderson has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America second team. The 5-10 outside hitter becomes the program's first AVCA first, second, or third team All-America selection. She also becomes the first volleyball player in Conference USA history to garner second team All-America accolades.
Henderson, an Oklahoma City native, was a 2009 AVCA All-America honorable mention, and a 2010 AVCA Midwest Region first-team selection. The 2010 C-USA Player of the Year, Henderson set school, C-USA and NCAA records for kills and kills per set with the 25-point scoring format. She totaled 710 kills and averaged 6.23 kills per set, while averaging a .348 attack percentage. She also leads the nation in points per set. She tallied 45 kills at SMU on Oct. 6, to set the NCAA record for kills in a set with the 25-point scoring format.
The league has had three players to earn AVCA All-America third team merits: Anastasia Yarteseva of Louisville (2004), Julie DuPont of Cincinnati (2003) and Michelle Collier of USF (2002).
