Tyler Henderson, Four-Time AVCA All-Midwest Region Selection

Dec. 5, 2012

IRVING, Texas - Twelve of the 20 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region selections are Conference USA student-athletes. Rice leads the list with three honorees, followed by SMU, Tulsa and UTEP with two each.

Tulsa senior All-America Tyler Henderson makes her fourth appearance on the All-Midwest Region Team, while Rice's Nancy Cole and UAB's Sam Serley are three-time honorees.

Henderson (Oklahoma City, Okla.) is the NCAA leader in points per set with a 5.79 mark and kills with a 5.22 kills per set average. She registered double-digit kills in 33 of her 35 matches, and 20 or more kills in 14 matches. A three-time Conference USA Player of the Year, she paced a Tulsa attack this year that was 16th in the nation in kills per set with 14.42 kills per frame average. Henderson, with 2,525 career kills, leaves Tulsa as the NCAA all-time leader in kills during the 25-point rally-scoring era.

Cole (Pasadena, Texas) ended her career as Rice's all-time record holder in hitting percentage, at .320. She posted 3.53 kills per set in 2012, as she was named All-C-USA first team. She finishes her career with 1,279 kills, and 397 total blocks. She was selected as C-USA Offensive Player of the Week twice during 2012 and became the 13th Rice player to reach 1,000 career kills on Sept. 7.

Serley (Nashville, Tenn.) ended her collegiate career by earning a spot on the six-member C-USA Volleyball All-Tournament team, after being named to the All-C-USA first team for the second-straight season. The middle blocker set the school record for career blocks in her final regular season match and is just the second player in program lore to reach both the 1,000-kill and 500-block marks in a career. Against UTEP at the C-USA Championship, Serley broke the single-season swat record at UAB of 175, which had stood for 23 seasons. In addition, she ranks fourth all-time in C-USA history in career blocks and led the league in both hitting percentage (.384) and blocks per set (1.41) during the regular season.

The first team members are now eligible to earn All-American honors, which will be announced on Wednesday, December 12.
