BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Senior volleyball player Casey Dent has been named the UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Dent, a right side hitter for the Blazers, has helped UAB to success on the court and been honored for her work in the classroom.

In four years at UAB, Dent has left her impression on the Blazer volleyball program. She ranks second in school history with a .333 career attack percentage, and she is in the middle of her best statistical season in 2008.

Dent has hit for a team-best .391 percentage through 19 matches this season, which ranks third among all players in Conference USA. She has contributed 2.93 kills per set as she has helped UAB to a 16-3 overall record (6-1 C-USA) and first place in the league standings.

A 2007 all-conference selection on the court, Dent has received even more accolades away from the floor. In both 2006 and 2007, she was recognized on the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Third Team. Dent also earned C-USA All-Academic Team honors and the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal in both 2006 and 2007.

Dent and the Blazers enter this weekend having won 10 straight matches. UAB opens a six-match homestand Friday when Tulsa visits Bartow Arena for a 7 p.m. CT contest.
