UTEP picked up Conference USA Volleyball Offensive Player and Setter of the Week honors as the Miners went 3-0 last week to extend their winning streak to six matches. Juniors XITLALI HERRERA and MALIA PATTERSON paced UTEP with a respective 3.33 kills and 10.92 assists per set in wins against New Mexico State, UAB and Memphis. Tulsa's JESSICA ADAMS picked up her 13th career and fourth of the season Defensive Player of the Week accolade after the team collected a pair of five-set road victories to extend its league record to a flawless 5-0. Adams accounted for 5.10 digs per set as Tulsa defeated Houston and Rice.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Herrera led UTEP to a trio of home wins last week as the Miners defeated I-10 rival New Mexico State, 3-2, UAB, 3-0, and Memphis, 3-1. The junior averaged 3.33 kills and 1.08 blocks per set while hitting a solid .423 for the week. The middle blocker posted 15 kills, 11 digs, three blocks (1s/2a) and registered a .414 hitting percentage versus New Mexico State. She recorded the fourth-best hitting efficiency of .647 for a four-set match in program history against UAB where she had 13 kills on 17 attempts with only a pair of errors. UTEP extended its winning streak to six with the Memphis victory Sunday. In that match, the middle blocker posted a season-best nine blocks (4s/5a), had 12 kills and seven digs. This is Herrera's first Offensive Player of the Week honor for her career but second weekly award as she was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 10.

Adams, the reigning CVU.com National Player of the Week, averaged 5.10 digs per set to help the Golden Hurricane achieve two five-set road victories against Houston and Rice. Against the Cougars, Adams tallied 22 digs and a service ace. In the contest, she was served to 23 times and had a reception percentage of .913. In the Sunday match at Rice, Adams recorded 29 digs and earned a reception percentage of .971 as the Owls served to Adams 35 times in the match. On the season, Adams leads the conference averaging 5.06 digs per set and now ranks fifth in Conference USA history with 2,113 career digs. This is her fourth Defensive Player of the Week honor for the season and 13th of her career.
SETTER OF THE WEEK
MALIA PATTERSON, UTEP / 5-8, JR., S / HONOLULU, HAWAII
Patterson led the conference with an average of 10.92 assists per set as the Miners went 3-0 overall and established a team hitting percentage of .259, second best in C-USA for the week. The junior dished out a season-best 56 assists and the team hit .260 as UTEP derailed NM State, 3-2. The last time UTEP defeated the Aggies was in 2004 in Las Cruces, N.M. The Miners extended their winning streak to six matches with C-USA wins over UAB and Memphis. Patterson is ranked second in the league for APS as she averages 10.87 on the year and the team leads the league with a .250 hitting clip. This is her second consecutive career Setter of the Week accolade.
