CONFERENCE USA VOLLEYBALL SHOOTING STARS (Fri., Sept. 25)
Ashleigh McCord and Jenn McClean each sported double-doubles to lead Rice (9-3, 1-0 C-USA) to a 3-0 victory at Memphis (2-13, 0-2) in its first Conference USA match of the season. A sophomore outside hitter, McCord led all attackers with 12 kills to go with 11 digs. McClean, pounded 10 kills with 14 digs. It was McClean's team-leading fifth double-double of the season and McCord's first.

Behind six blocks and a career-high 17 kills from Michelle Uzoh, UAB (8-8, 2-0) took down Houston (3-13, 0-1), 3-1, in Conference USA action at Bartow Arena. Uzoh, a junior middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas, hit .438 for the match and was one of three Blazers in double-figure kills, joining Andrea Lalic and Sam Serley with 12 each.

East Carolina (7-6, 1-1) senior setter Hannah Fenker picked up her third double-double of the season and second-straight, handing out 45 assists and digging 12 balls in a 3-1 victory over UCF (8-7, 0-2) . The win was the Pirates first home match of 2009. Junior middle hitter Lizzy Bruin notched her first double-double of the campaign, collecting a team-high 15 kills and a career-best 13 digs.

UCF senior Erin Campbell became only the fourth Knight in program-history to register both 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Visnja Djurdjevic posted her seventh double-double of the year with a team-best 20 kills to go with 12 digs, two block assists and a pair of aces as Tulane (6-4, 2-0) swept Tulsa , (10-4, 0-1) in New Orleans. She hit .318 for the match with just six errors in 44 swings, and paced the team with 23.0 points. Senior outside Ksenija Vlaskovic was second on the squad in kills with nine while junior middle blocker Lindsey Shepard followed with seven. Senior setter Rachel Lindelow led all players with 37 assists while senior libero Jenn Miller tallied a match-high 18 digs.

Tulsa freshman Tyler Henderson led all players with 25 kills and hit .444. Senior Jennifer Eichler recorded her third double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs, and hit .296 in the match.

 

 

In a 3-1 loss at UAB, Houston senior Kinsey Cave recorded a game-high 22 kills, for her 11th double-digit kill match this season. It also marked the third time that Cave has passed the 20 kills plateau in 2009. Junior Amanda Carson notched 30 digs.

Emily Sullivan totaled 14 kills on 22 attempts with just three errors for an impressive .500 attacking percentage as Marshall defeated Southern Miss, 3-1, at the Cam Henderson Center. Classmate Kristin Marcum just missed a double-double, with nine kills and a team-best 14 digs. Elizabeth Fleming added a match-best 42 assists, eight digs and two block assits. USM's Ashley Mell recorded a double-double with a team-high 11 kills and 19 digs.

Senior outside hitter Amy Sanders posted 11 kills and 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season as UTEP (8-7, 1-1) swept SMU. Teammate Catherine Chavez finished the night with 12 digs and nine kills. The win snaps a seven-match win streak by the Mustangs (10-5, 0-1).
