UAB setter Alison Woods reached a career milestone and libero Rachel Fairbanks posted a match-high 21 digs as the Blazers (5-4) swept Winthrop, 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-20) Friday in the first match of the Carolina Clash hosted by South Carolina. UAB has won four-straight matches.
Woods became just the fourth player in UAB history to reach 3,000 career assists when she set up classmate Kirsten Gallagher for a kill in the second set. She ended the match with 12 helpers and four digs in the victory.
Rice senior Nancy Cole picked up her 1,000th career kill on the third play of the first set against host Ole Miss Friday night. Cole is the 13th player in Rice history to reach 1,000 kills. The senior from Pasadena, Texas, finished with nine kills and three solo blocks in the match.
