Rice won its second straight midweek game and defeated Sam Houston State 3-0 at Tudor Fieldhouse. Nancy Cole led all players with 15 kills. She currently has 979 kills for her career and needs 21 to reach 1,000 for her career. Lizzy Bache picked a season-high 13 kills, marking her fifth match with double digit kills this season. Reigning C-USA Player of the Week Megan Murphy posted 34 assists, her seventh time in eight matches this season to post 34+ assists, to go along with seven digs. Rice held the Bearkats to just .105 hitting for the match, forcing the opposition into 22 errors on the evening.

UAB swatted 16 blocks as a team to control the net and down Georgia State, 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-13, 25-17) in the home opener at Bartow Arena. UAB produced five players with multiple blocks on the night, as the Blazers were one rejection shy of tying their season-high. Middle blockers Sam Serley and Kiriana Hirini paced the Green and Gold with eight (2 solo/6 assists) and seven (3 solo/4 assists) blocks, respectively.

After taking the first two sets, Marshall allowed Morehead State to creep back into the match and take the game to five sets, but the Herd held strong and came out victorious, 3-2 (25-20, 25-23, 17-25, 12-25, 15-12) Wednesday. The Herd played in front of 2,073 fans, marking the largest home crowd since playing in front of 2,737 against UAB on Oct. 12, 2007. The stands were filled with local elementary school children, as the Marshall marketing department held "Field Trip Day" for the event. Junior outside hitter Laura Der led the team in kills with 12 and recorded her fourth double-double after combining for 10 digs.
