UTSA senior McKenzie Adams, sophomore Rachel Shaughnessy of Middle Tennessee and UAB senior Becca Howard earn the first C-USA Volleyball Player of the Week awards of the 2013 season. Adams averaged 6.25 kills and 6.46 points per set to earn Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Shaughnessy accounted for 1.50 blocks per set for Defensive Player of the Week honors. Howard led UAB to a 3-1 start as she dished out 11.69 assists per set and 152 total helpers in opening weekend play. This marks the first C-USA weekly award for the trio.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MCKENZIE ADAMS, UTSA / 6-3, SR., OH / SCHERTZ, TEXAS
Adams earned all-tournament honors at the LUS Tiger Classic after averaging 6.25 kills, 4.00 digs and 6.46 points per set. The 6-3 senior outside hitter registered 29 kills, hit .344, posted 20 digs and added three block assists against host LSU in the season opener Friday. She bounced back and registered 23 kills, 10 digs and a pair of block assists verses San Diego State, a team that's receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. The preseason Conference USA Player of the Year recorded her third double-double of the weekend with 23 kills and 18 digs to help lead the Roadrunners to a 3-1 victory against UC Davis. This is Adams' first career C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Shaughnessy led Middle Tennessee with 1.50 blocks per set and recorded 18 in the four-team Blue Raider Bash last weekend in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The sophomore middle blocker had one of her best performances with a career-best 11 blocks in a four-set win over Notre Dame, a team that's receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. She also had four blocks in a 3-2 win over San Francisco and three versus North Carolina. Shaughnessy ended the three matches with a .364 hitting efficiency (11k-3E-22TA). This is her first career C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Howard averaged 11.69 assists per set and dished out a total of 152 during opening weekend play to earn UAB/Samford Volleyball Challenge All-Tournament honors. She guided the Blazers to a 3-1 record during tournament action. The 5-9 senior set a career-high with 54 assists against Jacksonville State in the final match of the tournament Saturday. Howard had a well-rounded weekend as she nabbed 31 digs, which was the second-most on the team and landed five aces. This is Howard's first career C-USA Setter of the Week honor.
