IRVING, Texas - Tulsa's win streak remains in tack as the Golden Hurricane swept UTEP Friday night inside the Reynolds Center. The team extends the nation's longest win streak to 21 matches, one shy of tying Conference USA most consecutive wins record, and remains undefeated in league play at 12-0.

SMU and Southern Miss were pushed to the limit as each picked up five-set victories. UCF entered Moody Coliseum and forced the Mustangs to the final set before losing. Southern Miss pushed its winning streak to six matches with a victory over host Memphis.

Houston and Rice also picked up wins Friday night to remain in a two-way tie for third-place among the league standings. UAB picked up its fourth league win with a sweep of Tulane.

C-USA VOLLEYBALL SNAP SHOTS (Friday, Oct. 29)
Houston 3, Marshall 0
Junior redshirt MB Lucy Charuk landed 13 kills as Houston swept host Marshall (17-25, 21-25, 22-25) inside the Cam Henderson Center. Junior OH Ingrida Zauere recorded a match-best 20 digs and Amanda Carson added 17 digs and Marluci Toazzi contributed 16 for Houston (14-10, 8-4 C-USA).

Marshall (9-14, 3-8 C-USA) received a team-high 13 kills on a .324 hitting percentage from Elizabeth Herman in the loss. She added five digs, two service aces and a block assist to total 15.5 points on the night. Elizabeth Fleming posted a double-double, her 11th of the season on 25 assists and 10 digs.
TULSA 3, UTEP 0
Tyler Henderson recorded 23 kills and hit .463, and Jordan Clampitt tallied 46 assists to lead Tulsa to a straight-set win (25-20, 25-19, 25-12) over UTEP at the Donald W. Reynolds. Jessica Adams led all players with 15 digs, while Diana Silva added 12 digs with a pair of kills for Tulsa (22-2, 12-0 C-USA).

 

 

UTEP's (12-12, 4-7 C-USA) Melissa Toth, Jeane Horton and Taylor Nix each pounded six kills for the Miners and Stephanie Figueroa produced a team-best 14 digs, her 18th double-digit dig performance of the season.

RICE 3, EAST CAROLINA 1
Sophomore MB Nancy Cole had a career-high 20 kills to lead Rice to a convincing 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 24-26, 25-16) road victory over East Carolina inside Minges Coliseum. Also in double-digit kills for Rice (13-11, 8-4 C-USA) was freshman Mariah Riddlesprigger with 15 kills. Cole also led all attackers with a .471 hitting percentage (20-4-34) and contributed five blocks (2BS, 3BA).

Junior MH Jackie Varnum had 10 kills and hit .318 for the match for the Pirates (1-22, 0-11 C-USA. Classmate OH Amanda Lutzow was not far behind as she put down nine. Defensively, junior Nicole Jones racked up 20 digs while Lutzow collected 14.

UAB 3, TULANE 0
Paced by sophomore MB Sam Serley's 14 kills, UAB turned in its best offensive performance of the season in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-14) sweep of Tulane at Bartow Arena. The Blazers finished with 41 total kills and just nine errors on their way to a .344 attack percentage as a team. Serley also led all players with seven blocks. Sophomore S Alison Woods posted a match-best 34 assists.

Sophomore OH Izabela Grot led the Green Wave offensive attack with 10 kills, followed by freshman MB Cori Martone with nine.

SMU 3, UCF 2
Junior RSH Jessica Oliver lead SMU with a season-high 24 kills as the Mustangs picked up a five set win (25-21, 19-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-10) over UCF at Moody Coliseum. The junior only totaled 43 attacks and finished with a personal-season best .488 attack percentage. Dana Powell, Courtney Manning and Kathryn Wilkerson each notched double-digit kills for the Mustangs. Powell registered 12 kills and added 15 digs to notch her 16th double-double this season. Manning totaled 10 kills and five blocks. Wilkerson, SMU's all-time digs leader, charted 10 kills and 15 digs for her 15th double-double this season. SMU setter Kelli Becerra collected a match-high 51 assists and Sidney Stewart, who was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, gathered a contest-high 25 digs.

UCF (12-11, 5-6 C-USA) junior OH Kristin Fisher matched her career-high after posting 26 kills for the second-straight match. Also putting together career-performances for the Black and Gold were redshirt freshman Nichole Riedel and freshman Roxy Mendez. Riedel tallied a career-best eight total blocks against the Mustangs, which included four block solos and four block assists.

SOUTHERN MISS 3, Memphis 2
Junior redshirt OH Ashley Mell landed a team-best 21 kills as Southern Miss outlasted Mempshi, 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-8) at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Teammates Lauren Sears and Amelia Hendrickson followed with 11 and 10 kills for the Golden Eagles (14-9, 7-5 C-USA)

Sophomore MB Altrese Hawkins landed a match and career-high 29 kills, while fellow sophomores Vesna Jelic and Hajnalka Molnar both posted double-doubles for Memphis (13-10, 4-7 C-USA). Jelic put away 10 kills and picked 15 digs for her fifth double-double of the year. Molnar set a season and career-high 58 assists to go with 17 digs. The Tigers also got a match-best 22 digs from senior liberos Christine Bach and Becky Shaffer added 16 digs.
