IRVING, Texas - Tulsa extended the nation's longest winning streak to 20 matches with a 3-0 victory over Rice Sunday afternoon. The 20 consecutive wins ties for second most in league history and TU's 11 Conference USA victories ranks fifth-best.

UAB bounced back from a first-set loss to win three in a row and the match at UTEP. UCF extended its winning streak to three matches with a straight-set victory over Memphis. Southern Miss also won in three sets over East Carolina.

C-USA VOLLEYBALL SNAP SHOTS (Sunday, Oct. 24)
Tulsa 3, Rice 0
Using a balanced offensive attack, including 15 kills by sophomore OH Tyler Henderson and a career-high 11 kills from MB Elizabeth Kale, Tulsa swept Conference USA rival Rice, (25-15, 31-29, 30-28), at Tudor Fieldhouse Sunday. Jordan Clampitt and Diana Silva each recorded double-doubles, as Clampitt tallied 48 assists and 13 digs, and Silva had 12 kills and 17 digs for the Golden Hurricane (21-2, 11-0 C-USA).

Junior OH Ashleigh McCord landed a match-high 18 kills for Rice (12-11, 7-4 C-USA). Sophomore MB Nancy Cole had 12 kills and one block solo with five block assists as the Owls tallied 10 team blocks. Owl senior S Meredith Schamun posted 39 assists and L Tracey Lam dug up a match-high 20 digs.

Southern Miss 3, East Carolina 0
Redshirt junior OH Ashley Mell led all players with 13 kills, while sophomore OH Halie Ecker connected on 10 as Southern Miss (13-9, 6-5 C-USA) swept East Carolina 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-21) in Reed Green Coliseum. Junior S Kelsea Seymour recorded 32 assists as Lisa Knecht led the defense with a match-high 18 digs and Mell picked up 13 digs. Seymour and Ecker added in 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

 

 

Juniors Amanda Lutzow and Nicole Jones combined for 33 digs to lead East Carolina (1-21, 0-10 C-USA) defensively while sophomore Kelly Derby racked up four blocks. Junior Jackie Varnum paced the offense for the second-straight match, tallying seven kills.

UCF 3, Memphis 0
UCF tallied 16.0 total team blocks, which included a match-best six blocks from sophomore MB Tory McCutcheon, on its way to a straight-sets victory, 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-22), over visiting Memphis (13-9, 4-6 C-USA) at The Venue at UCF. Offensively, junior OH Kristin Fisher and sophomore OPP Evija Vilde led the Knights with eight kills apiece, while redshirt freshman Nichole Riedel pitched in a .857 performance with six kills.

Sophomore OH Vesna Jelic claimed a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs for Memphis. Senior L Christine Bach produced match-high numbers with 26 digs, while sophomore RS Marija Jovanovic downed 19 kills. Hajnalka Molnar dished out a match-best 35 assists.

UAB 3, UTEP 1
UAB took a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 24-26, 22-25) match over UTEP on Sunday in Memorial Gym. UAB (12-11, 4-6 C-USA) had three players with double figure kills, including sophomore MB Sam Serley who blasted a match-high 19. She has reached double-digit kills in each of the past five contests and is hitting at a .492 clip over that stretch. Setter Alison Woods ran the UAB attack with 49 assists.

UTEP's (6-16, 3-7 C-USA) offense was paced by a pair of redshirt freshman - Melissa Toth and Jeane Horton - who collected 17 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior L Stephanie Figueroa picked up a career-best 28 digs for the match. It was her fifth contest with 20 or more digs and the 17th (of 23) double-digit dig contest of 2010.
