IRVING, Texas - Seniors CHRIS HELLIAR of UAB and KARLI TIMKO of Marshall have earned Conference USA's September Tennis Athlete of the Month honors. Helliar was a perfect 11-0 in singles for the month of September as he first won six straight matches at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga., to claim the "B" Division title without dropping a set. Timko won the Flight B singles bracket at the Hokie Fall Invite at Virginia Tech. She also won the doubles bracket at the 21st Annual Tribe Invitational at William and Mary.

Timko won the Flight B singles bracket at the Hokie Fall Invite at Virginia Tech. She also won the doubles bracket at the 21st Annual Tribe Invitational at William and Mary. Timko's first two victories were over Cameron Richard of Liberty, 6-2, 6-4, and James Madison's Emily Bradshaw, 6-1, 6-4. She finished off tournament play with a pair of wins over Pittsburgh players Amanda Wickman, 6-3, 6-4, and Audrey Ann Blackely. Timko's only lost in the fall season has been a 7-6, 7-6 match to Sarah Richter of Utah at the Tribe Invitiational. She defeated Natalie Looney of South Carolina, 6-1, 6-3, and Julienne Si Ying of Dartmouth, 6-2, 6-3, in the opening rounds. Also at the Tribe Invitational she teamed up with Rachael Morales for three straight doubles victories.

Helliar was a perfect 11-0 in singles for the month of September as he first won six straight matches at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga., to claim the "B" Division title without dropping a set. He defeated opponents from Clemson, Virginia Tech, Portland, East Tennessee State, Charlotte and Alabama en route to the championship. Helliar fought his way through the pre-qualifying bracket with four victories at the ITA All-American Championships at Tulsa, Okla., defeating foes from Army, Tennessee, South Florida and Oklahoma State. Helliar advanced to the qualifying draw of the ITA All-American and downed Southern California's Eric Johnson, ranked No. 58 nationally and seeded 10th in the field, 6-4, 6-4, in his opening round match. In doubles, he teamed with Rafael Rondino to go 2-1 in the "A" Division at the Southern Intercollegiates, ultimately being defeated by Vanderbilt's 13th-ranked team of Austin and Lipman. Helliar and Rondino are entered in the ITA All-American Championships and won their opening round qualfying draw match.
