Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors Announced

IRVING, Texas - For the first time since joining Conference USA in 2005-06, a University of Tulsa player has claimed Women's Tennis Player of the Year accolades as junior SAMANTHA VICKERS captured the 2013 award. The 17th-ranked player in the nation also earned first team honors for singles and doubles as well as being named Outstanding Doubles Team of the C-USA Championship with partner ISAURA ENRIQUE. The duo is ranked 15th in ITA rankings heading into the NCAA Championships. Enrique and teammate MICHELLE FARLEY were voted to the All-C-USA Singles second team.

Earning her second consecutive Coach of the Year honor is Rice's ELIZABETH SCHMIDT. The fifth-year head coach has guided the Owls to a No. 20 national ranking and an overall record of 20-4. Rice won its first C-USA Championship since 2006 and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

In addition, Rice sophomore LIAT ZIMMERMANN was voted C-USA Newcomer of the Year after transferring from Miami (Fla.). For the Owls, she produced an overall singles record of 14-4, including a 7-3 mark at No. 3 singles and 11-3 at No. 2 doubles with KATIE GATER. Zimmerman and Gater were named to the All-C-USA Singles third team, while Owl standouts NATALIE BEAZANT and DOMINIQUE HARMATH earned first team accolades.

Beazant, 2012 C-USA Player and Freshman of the Year, sports a 17-3 record at No. 1 singles, followed by Harmath's 16-5 performance at No. 2 singles. In doubles action the duo ranks 23rd in the nation and owns a No. 1 doubles record of 20-4, earning them All-C-USA Doubles second team honors. Harmath also earned Outstanding Singles Player of the Championship after defeating Edyta Cieplucha of SMU and Isaura Enrique of Tulsa at No. 2. Her match against Nikol Hristova of Old Dominion went unfinished.

Earning C-USA Freshman of the Year accolades is Memphis' SKYLAR KUYKENDALL. The rookie ended the regular season with a 16-4 singles record and a flawless 7-0 mark at No. 3 singles. This is Memphis' first Freshman of the Year award winner. Kuykendall also earned All-C-USA Singles third team honors while teammates COURTNEY COLLINS was named to the first team and ALYSSA HIBBERD and TIFFANY WELCHER earned second team accolades. CAROLINA WEGNER joined Kuykendall on the third team. Wegner also earned All-C-USA Doubles third team honors with STEFANIE MIKESZ.

 

 

Rounding out the All-C-USA Singles first team is SMU's ALEKSANDRA MALYARCHIKOVA and EDYTA CIEPLUCHA, Tulane's KLARA VYSKOCILOVA and GENEVIEVE LORGEGS of UCF.
