MEMPHIS, Tenn.--The first day of the Memphis Winter Invitational, hosted by the Lady Tigers, came to a close late Thursday night following singles matches between Memphis and BYU.
The Lady Tigers went 2-4 against the Cougars. Transfer Mariya Slupska snagged a, 6-2, 6-3, victory in her Lady Tiger debut, while freshman Kathleen Hawkins upended her opponent in a hard-fought match that ended in a 10-point tiebreaker, 7-5, 5-7, 11-9.
Day two begins at 9 a.m. on Friday at The Racquet Club of Memphis with Missouri and BYU battling it out in doubles. Memphis is slated to take the courts again at 10:30 a.m. against the Rebels of Ole Miss, also in doubles.
Admission is free to all U of M tennis events at The Racquet Club.
