The No. 24 Tulsa women's tennis team rallied to defeat No. 52 Memphis in a 4-3 thriller at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility on Sunday.

The Golden Hurricane (3-1) fell behind 1-0 after conceding the doubles point to Memphis. TU lost the point 2-1, as the Hurricane's lone win came at No. 1 doubles, where No. 9 ranked Samantha Vickers and Isaura Enrique defeated No. 18 Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray, 8-4.

In singles, Tulsa was down 2-0 as freshman Renata Kuricova lost at the No. 6 flight by a count of 6-3, 6-1. The Hurricane rallied to knot the match at two apiece as Vickers and freshman Saana Saarteinen picked up wins at the Nos. 1 and 4 flights, respectively. Vickers, ranked No. 124 in the nation in singles, defeated Collins 6-1, 6-1, while Saarteinen took down Alyssa Hibberd 6-2, 6-3.

After freshman Carol Benito lost at No. 5 singles, Enrique won her match at No. 2 singles over Stefanie Mikesz, 6-3, 6-1, to tie the match at three. Then it came down to No. 3 singles, where senior Michelle Farley won the match for TU with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, triumph over Liza Tymchenko.

"As expected, it was another tough match against a very good Memphis team," commented Head Coach Dean Orford. "I'm very proud at how the ladies rallied back after giving up the doubles point. Michelle (Farley) came through big in a clutch situation at the end of the match. She always handles these moments so well and delivered once again. Sam (Vickers), Isaura (Enrique) and Saana (Saarteinen) also put in very solid performances to place us in a position to win the match. Sam is starting to hit her stride and was undefeated on the weekend. Overall a very exiting match and we look forward to playing Memphis again later in the season back in Tulsa."

The Hurricane returns home for a pair of tilts at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. On Thursday, January 31, TU will host Wichita State and will play Rice on Sunday, February 3.
