IRVING, Texas – Houston seniors Reka Kovacs and Julia Lonnegren have been named Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, after posting NCAA qualifying marks last week. Kovacs met the NCAA B standard in the 200 breaststroke, while Lonnegren recorded NCAA-qualifying marks on the one- and three-meter boards and the platform.
Conference USA Swimmer of the Week – Reka Kovacs, Houston, Sr., Budapest, Hungary
Kovacs was Houston’s high-point swimmer at the Phill Handel Invitational. She swam a personal best and NCAA B time in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.73) to finish in eighth place and clocked a season-best 4:20.69 to claim seventh place in the 400IM. Kovacs also swam a season-best time of 1:03.56 in 100 breast. This is the second Swimmer of the Week honor for Kovacs’ career and first of the season.
Conference USA Diver of the Week –. Julia Lonnegren, Houston, Sr., Forolund, Sweden
Lonnegren paced Houston, as she scored 46 points during the Phill Hansel Invitational. She notched NCAA-qualifying standards in each dive, including her first attempt at the platform. Lonnegren had the high-point total (60.80) of the second round on the platform with her Armstand Back 2 Somersault 1 1/2 Twist Free and posted a season-best score in the 3M (323.85). She finished third among all divers in all events combined. The award is the eighth of Lonnegren’s career and first of the season.
