IRVING, Texas – Houston freshman Natasha Burgess has been named Conference USA Diver of the Week after improving her NCAA-qualifying scores during a dual meet with No. 6 Texas A&M Feb. 3. SMU freshman Rachel Nicol won the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events with top-five C-USA times during a dual meet against No. 4 Texas and has been named C-USA Swimmer of the Week.

C-USA Swimmer of the Week - Rachel Nicol, SMU, Fr., Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada

Nicol earned two individual titles as the Mustangs were edged, 155-139, by No. 4 Texas Saturday afternoon at Perkins Natatorium. The breaststroke specialist took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.74, edging out fellow newcomer Erica Donadon by one one-hundredth of a second (1:03.75). Nicol also won the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in with a time of 2:15.48. The award is the first of Nicol’s career.

C-USA Diver of the Week - Natasha Burgess, Houston, Fr, Adelaide, Australia

Burgess surpassed the NCAA diving standards yet again, posting a C-USA-best 339.08 in the three-meter and a 314.93 total in the one-meter event during a dual meet against No. 6 Texas A&M last week. Both scores are personal bests that improved upon her NCAA qualification marks. Burgess was the runner-up in the three-meter, eclipsing the 300-point mark for the second time this season, and finished in fourth place in the one meter with her second 300-plus tally of the year. The award is the second of Burgess’ career and of the season.
