April 22 C-USA Softball Players of the Week
April 22, 2013
IRVING, Texas – Marshall senior Andi Williamson has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week after a dominating week in which she struck out 28 batters, picked up two wins and did not allow an earned run against Ohio. Houston's Haley Outon repeats as Hitter of the Week after two walk-off hits against No. 23/22 Tulsa, a pair of home runs and an eight-RBI week.
Outon batted 5-for-16 with eight RBI and two home runs last week. She delivered two walk-off hits in Saturday's doubleheader to take down No. 22/23 Tulsa, including a two-RBI single in the seventh in the first game Saturday to give UH the 4-3 win and cap a three-run rally in the seventh. Outon followed up that performance with a walk-off home run later in the day versus TU, knocking the first pitch of the seventh inning over the wall. She went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and five RBI in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader at Louisiana. Outon has driven in five or more runs three times this year. This is Outon's second Hitter of the Week honor of the season and third of her career.
Williamson went 2-0 against Ohio last week, striking out 28 batters while surrendering just two hits in 13.0 innings and posting a 0.00 ERA. Williamson earned her sixth shutout victory in game one of the doubleheader, striking out 16 batters - nine consecutively. She entered in relief during game two facing a two-run deficit and did not allow a hit. Williamson struck out 12 more in game two to push her season total to 300. She held the Bobcats to a .047 batting average and broke Marshall's all-time records for strikeouts in a single game, wins in a season and strikeouts in a season. This is Williamson's first Pitcher of the Week honor this season and third of her career.
