April 16, 2012
IRVING, Texas - UCF freshman Mackenzie Audas has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week for a second straight week after she struck out 33 batters in 21.2 innings and allowed just seven hits. She threw a complete game, two-hit, 11-strikeout performance in a 2-0 win over No. 3 Florida Wednesday. The C-USA Hitter of the Week is Houston's Holly Anderson after she hit .562 and paced the league in runs and stolen bases last week.
C-USA Pitcher of the Week - Mackenzie Audas, UCF, Fr., Plant City, Fla.
Audas tossed a two-hit, 11-strikeout performance as UCF dropped No. 3 Florida, 2-0. For the week, she struck out 33 batters in 21.2 innings, while allowing just four hits and became the quickest pitcher in UCF history to reach 200 career strikeouts. Audas allowed just two singles and struck out 11 Gators in Wednesday's shutout. Florida came into the game ranked in the top 20 in the nation in batting average, slugging percentage and runs per game. Saturday, Audas came in relief with the bases loaded and one out against UAB and got a pop up and strikeout to end the Blazers threat. Later that same day, she pitched a complete game and took a loss despite allowing just four hits and striking out 11. Sunday, Audas took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before allowing a single. That would be the only hit she allowed as she pitched eight innings, giving up just the one hit while striking out 10 Blazers as the Knights won, 1-0, in extra innings. Audas is currently No. 1 in C-USA in wins, complete games, ERA, strikeouts, and batting average against. This is the third Pitcher of the Week award of her career.
C-USA Hitter of the Week - Holly Anderson, Houston, Jr., Dickinson, Texas
Anderson extended her hitting streak to 10 games overall and 12-straight in C-USA games as she led Houston to a 4-1 week. The leadoff batter hit .562 (9-for-16) and posted three multiple-hit games while scoring six and driving in three. She was a terror on the base paths, stealing five bases without being caught. The third baseman hasn't committed an error in more than a month and has hit .500 since her move into the leadoff spot nine games ago. The award is her first of the season and second of her career.
