IRVING, Texas - UAB senior Lauren Webster has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week after dominating the field at the Magic City Classic, striking out 26 batters in 14 innings and posting a 0.00 ERA. Marshall second baseman Bri Anna Hope is the C-USA Hitter of the Week after batting .471 with six runs scored and eight driven in during a 5-1 week for the Thundering Herd.
Conference USA Hitter of the Week - Bri Anna Hope, Marshall, 2B, Round Rock, Texas
Hope hit .471 last week with eight RBI, six runs scored, a homer, triple and two doubles, helping Marshall post a 5-1 record. The second baseman paced the Thundering Herd to the Marshall Invitational title with two game-winning hits Saturday against Robert Morris. Her second inning grand slam set the stage for Hope's first game-ender as she singled through the left side of the infield during the sixth inning to push across the final run in an 11-3 win and cap a 2-for-3 effort with five RBI. Hope ended game two with a two-RBI walk-off double in the 4-3 victory over the Colonials. For the week, she posted three multi-hit games. This is Hope's first Hitter of the Week award for her career.
Conference USA Pitcher of the Week - Lauren Webster, UAB, Sr., Mathews, Ala.
Webster was named Magic City Classic Co-Most Valuable Pitcher, as voted by the head coaches following the final game of the Magic City Classic, co-hosted by UAB and Samford at the UAB Softball Field. In two appearances in the circle, Webster threw a pair of complete games and recorded her third shutout in the 2-0 win over Murray State. In two appearances this weekend, the senior struck out 26 batters in 14 innings and allowed only five hits. This is the second time this season that Webster has retired 14 batters in a game. For the season, Webster has recorded 60 strikeouts. The award is the first of Webster's career.
