Tulsa opened the Unconquered Invitational Friday with a pair of wins over ranked opponents, as the Golden Hurricane defeated No. 25/21 Florida State, 3-2 (8 inn.), and No. 21/25 Hofstra, 9-6, at JoAnne Graf Field.

The Golden Hurricane (5-2) began the day with a tense, extra-inning victory over the host Seminoles. Junior Aimee Creger (2-0) pitched 7.1 no-hit innings, and struck out 13 batters in the complete-game win. Junior outfielder Haley Henshaw hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give TU its eventual winning runs.

In the evening contest, the Hurricane slugged out a 9-6 victory over Hofstra. Henshaw went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the game, and sophomore first baseman Julie Kernen added a home run and three RBI. Junior third baseman Jill Barrett also tallied a pair of singles and two RBI.

Senior Lacey Middlebrooks (2-1) pitched 5.0 innings to earn the win. Just one of her three runs allowed was earned, and she added a pair of hits and scored a run at the plate.

Henshaw ended the day 4-for-8 with five RBI, while Barrett went 4-for-8 with two RBI in the two games.

East Carolina 3, Georgetown 1

East Carolina jumped all over Georgetown early in the second game with a run in the first inning. Oshiro tripled to right center and was brought in as Alex Fieldhouse made it back-to-back three baggers with a triple to the gap.

ECU took the lead in the third inning as Fieldhouse launched her first home run of the season to left centerfield. The long ball was the sixth of her career.

ECU added a much needed insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Kai Clark drew a walk to start things off. Freshman Meredith Mitchell was inserted to run for Clark and moved to second on senior Cicely Lopez’s sacrifice bunt. After a strikeout, Oshiro followed with a two-out double to the gap to score the speedy Mitchell from second.

That was all the run support that Christian needed in picking up her third win of the season. She pitched around a one-out single in the sixth with a pair of ground outs and then set the side down in order in the seventh. The sophomore only allowed three hits and one unearned run with five strikeouts against the Hoyas.

UCF used dominant pitching combined with timely hitting to earn its first victory of the 2013 season. It took an extra frame for the Knights (1-5), but they earned a 1-0 win over UT-Arlington (1-1) in eight innings Friday at the UCF Softball Complex.

With international rules going into effect in the eighth inning, the Knights went into the extended action with sophomore Kahley Novak placed on second base. Novak, the Knights' fastest player, immediately stole third to move just 70 feet away from winning the game. Freshman Mariah Garcia stepped in next and crushed a double that one-hopped the wall and allowed Novak to coast home and get mobbed by her teammates at the plate.
