Jan. 10, 2013
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall head softball coach Shonda Stanton has been invited to share her 15 years of coaching knowledge at two upcoming clinics in the month of January.
On January 11 and 12, Stanton will be in Pittsburgh, Pa. to be a part of the PA Baseball & Softball Coaches Clinic. She will speak both days and a total of four times.
Her Friday topics will be “Winning Warm-up for Hitters” and “Little Things: Small Ball & Baserunning.” On Saturday, Stanton’s topics will be “Quality Cuts – Circuit Training” and “Catching Drill Session: Blocking, Receiving, Throwing & Conditioning Drills.”
Stanton will be in Louisville, Ky. for SoftballCon, the National Softball Coaches Conference on Jan. 26. She will be speaking twice. Her first session will combine two her topics from the Pittsburgh convention, “Winning Warm-up for Hitters” and “Quality Cuts – Circuit Training.” Her second session will be “Little Things: Small Ball & Baserunning.”
“Both of these clinics have a solid line-up of speakers,” Stanton said. “It is always enjoyable to share how we do things at Marshall in addition to picking up some new ideas from the other speakers”
The 14-year head coach of the Thundering Herd previously spoke back on November 30 at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Convention in Orlando, Fla. Her topic centered on life and work balance.
“It was a great opportunity to speak at our National Convention. I appreciate Patrick Murphy, head coach at the University Alabama, for thinking of me as one of the guest speakers,” Stanton said about her chance to speak to fellow coaches. “Lacey Lee and her staff at the NFCA always do an incredible job of putting on a great event, and I am pleased I could give back by sharing with my peers.”
Stanton’s speaking schedule adds to a busy month for the softball program. The first day of practice for the 2013 season gets underway Jan. 14. The second annual Diamond Club Dinner, with guest speaker Natasha Watley is Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. Watley is a two-time Olympian and four-time All-American.
