MONROE, La. - Senior Kailey Yarmer hit a two-run home run and Stephanie Chomicki batted in another run to lead The University of Tulsa softball team to a 3-0 victory at Louisiana-Monroe Thursday evening at the ULM Softball Complex.

With a one-run lead in the fifth inning, Yarmer blasted a two-run shot to left field to give the Golden Hurricane (17-9) some breathing room. Given enough offense, senior Katie Lee (5-3) pitched a stellar game and TU came up with the win. Louisiana-Monroe falls to 10-19 on the season, and Warhawk starter Kandace Causey received the loss and falls to 6-9 this season.

"It was a good win, and we had good pitching and jumped out to an early lead," Tulsa Head Coach John Bargfeldt said. "We faced the same pitcher as the last time (a 3-1 win over ULM on Feb. 20), and we had some better swings this time.

"Katie went out and pitched a good game. I felt like she got better as the game went on. She had a good outing, and that's what I challenged her to do. With Jackie pitching well last night, we had two good outings in a row, and that's what we needed going into a conference series this weekend."

Louisiana-Monroe managed five hits, but did not pose a significant threat to score, and Lee shut down the Warhawk bats for most of the game, in striking out five and walking zero batters. Each time ULM got one or two runners on base, it seemed the Hurricane came up with big outs to stop the opposition. In the second inning, ULM led off with a single and followed with a sacrifice bunt and a fly out, then Tulsa committed an error to let the runner reach third, but Lee came back with a strikeout to end the inning.

Tulsa recorded seven hits in the ballgame and got at least one runner on base in every inning except the seventh. Junior catcher Christian Timmons, who was 2-for-3 on the night, led off the fourth inning with a double to left center. Chomicki then singled to left field, scoring Timmons from second to give the Golden Hurricane a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, sophomore designated player Lauren Menke drew a one-out walk and Yarmer followed with her homer to left field, giving Tulsa a 3-0 lead.

In the game, Menke and junior right fielder Lauren Lindsay also doubled, while Chomicki added a bunt single in the sixth.

The Golden Hurricane closes the 10-day road trip with a weekend series at Memphis, with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The two teams will play Sunday at noon.

Tulsa returns home Wednesday, March 25 to play Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Tickets for TU softball home games are $6 for adults and $4 for youth high school and younger, and can be purchased in person at the TU Athletics Ticket Office, by calling (918) 631-GoTU, or on the web by visiting www.TulsaHurricane.com.
