AUSTIN, Texas -
The Tulsa softball team dropped two games to Louisville Saturday, 4-1, and, 5-0, at the Texas Classic at McCombs Field.
In the first game, sophomore shortstop Samantha Cobb hit an RBI single up the middle for the lone Golden Hurricane (1-3) run. Sophomore Lacey Middlebrooks (0-1) took the loss for TU after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing four runs. Chelsea Leonard (1-0) pitched five innings and picked up the win for the Cardinals (2-1).
Freshman third baseman Jill Barrett laid down a bunt single in the seventh inning for TU's only hit off of Louisville starter Tori Collins (1-1), who pitched a complete game. Freshman Aimee Creger (1-1) pitched 4.0 innings and allowed three earned runs and struck out six batters.
"We're not very disciplined on the strike zone. We swing at too many balls outside of the zone. I saw some signs at the end of the game where we took a little better approach. We look forward to the (first) game where we put it all together, and when we do we'll take some pressure off of our pitching and defense," Tulsa Head Coach John Bargfeldt said.
The Cardinals scored two unearned runs on two hits in the second inning, and three runs on three hits in the third inning, fueled by a two-run home run.
For the second straight game, senior Jordan Kinard came on in relief, and pitched two scoreless innings, recording two strikeouts.
