Oct. 7 Women's Soccer Players of the Week

Oct. 7, 2013

Charlotte junior midfielder Amanda Jones and Tulsa senior goalkeeper Hayley Harryman were selected the Conference USA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their performances over the weekend in C-USA play. Jones netted a pair of goals for the 49ers, including one in a win over UTSA and the equalizer in a tie with fellow East Division leader Middle Tennessee. Harryman registered two shutouts in road wins at Southern Miss and Rice as the Golden Hurricane remains undefeated in conference action.

Jones netted a pair of goals as the 49ers opened their home Conference USA slate. She scored her first goal of the weekend with a 40-yarder over the head of the UTSA goalie to extend Charlotte's lead to 2-0. Jones led all players against the Roadrunners with five shots, placing two on goal. Jones then tallied her second score of the weekend, also the team's second of the game, when she one-timed a pass just underneath the crossbar to equalize the match against fellow East Division leader Middle Tennessee. Jones' score against the Blue Raiders erased an early 2-0 deficit for the 49ers, who ended the match with their first tie since last October. Jones also factored into Sunday's first goal, sending a long pass from the left side ahead for a one-on-one opportunity for teammate Maddie Kieble against the MT goalkeeper. This is the first career C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honor for Jones.

Senior, GK, Castle Rock, Colo.

Harryman played 180 minutes in goal this weekend, recorded five saves and earned two shutouts, in 1-0 road wins against Southern Miss and Rice. Harryman has played 1,184 minutes between the posts this season, tallied 41 saves and earned eight shutouts, including five-straight overall and four straight to start off Conference USA play. This is Harryman's first career C-USA Defensive Player of the Week award.
