Memphis sophomore Kylie Davis and Rice freshman Holly Hargreaves each registered two game-winning goals for their respective teams in the opening weekend of C-USA play to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors. East Carolina junior keeper Christiane Cordero picked up a pair of shutout wins to take the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week award. The weekly honors are career first for all three.
CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
KYLIE DAVIS, MEMPHIS
Sophomore, F/MF, L'lle-Bizard, Quebec
Davis netted a pair of game-winners, including the golden goal in the Tigers' 2-1 win Friday over No. 6 UCF. Davis scored just two minutes into the overtime period and propelled Memphis to its first win over a top-10 foe. Her goal Sunday was against Southern Miss and her third game-winner of the season. The sophomore co-captain also recorded an assist in Sunday's match to finish the weekend with two goals and an assist. This is the first Player of the Week honor for Davis.
HOLLY HARGREAVES, RICE
Freshman, F, New Hope, Pa.
Hargreaves scored both game-winning goals and had two assists on six shots in the Owls' undefeated 2-0-0 weekend. After recording the lone goal of the game in the 1-0 victory over Tulsa, Hargreaves scored the game-winner in the 87th minute of the 3-2 victory over SMU Sunday. She also registered the assist on both of Rice's first two goals against SMU. For the two matches, the rookie played 131 minutes, had a team-high six points and took six shots, including four on goal for a .667 shots-on-goal percentage. She also leads the team with six goals on the season, including a Conference-best four game-winners. This is her first C-USA Player of the Week award.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CHRISTIANE CORDERO, EAST CAROLINA
Junior, GK, Valencia, Calif.
Cordero picked up a pair of shutout wins over the weekend against UTEP and Colorado College to help the Pirates to their first 2-0 start in league play since the 2008 season. The junior keeper tallied 11 saves on the weekend playing all 180 minutes in the box and recorded her third and fourth clean sheets of the year. Against UTEP, she stopped all five shots she faced in a 1-0 victory. She followed that with six saves in another 1-0 win, snapping Colorado College's five-match win streak. In six games at home, she is 5-1, allowing just two goals (0.33 GAA), posting four shutouts and making 20 saves. Cordero has started all 48 career games played in goal for the Pirates, but this is her first C-USA Player of the Week honor.
