C-USA WOMEN'S SOCCER SHOOTING STARS

  • A 30-yard strike from sophomore Shelby Redman at the 89:58 mark gave SMU a 2-1 road victory over TCU Friday night. SMU is now 26-0-2 against TCU all-time. The two teams were deadlocked 0-0 heading into halftime. SMU finally scored at the 68:20 mark when senior F Kenzie Scovill scored on a header off of a junior D Courtney Smith corner for her fourth goal of the season.
  • Houston junior MF Jasmine Martinez scored on a penalty kick in the 87th minute to lift the Cougars to a 1-0 victory against host Arizona State in Friday's first round of the Arizona State Tournament. Junior GK Cami Koski had six saves in the match and was credited with UH's first shutout of the season.
  • UTEP junior Azia Nicholson scored the game-winner with her fourth goal of the season in the 16th minute with a 3-0 victory over Weber State. Sophomore MF Mackenzie German and senior F Brittany Kindzierski each added goals on the evening. Sophomore GK Sara Dilling made four saves.
  • Senior MF Hannah Peterson scored the first two goals for Colorado College, and her first two of the season, in a 4-0 shutout of visiting Bryant Friday afternoon. Junior MF Madison Whitehead and senior D Sam Curran also registered their first goals of the season for the Tigers insurance.
  • Marshall freshman F Erin Simmons scored twice Friday night to lead the Thundering Herd past Morehead State, 2-0, for its first road win of the season. It was the 28th time a member of the Herd notched a pair of goals in the same game and the first since Erika Duncan struck twice against UTEP last year. Simmons, who scored in the 40th and 70th minutes, helped Marshall win back-to-back games for the first time since the team won three straight in October of 2010.
  • Memphis junior Christabel Oduro netted an 87th minute equalizer before freshman Diamond Simpson converted the golden goal to give Memphis a 2-1 double-overtime win over Vanderbilt Thursday night. Simpson scored the game-winner in the 102nd minute as sophomore D Kelley Gravlin hit a shot off the cross bar as a result of a corner kick. Simpson gathered the rebound and touched the goal in for the first of her career. Freshman Christa Strickland made her first career start between the posts for the Tigers and finished with seven saves. The Tigers had nine underclassmen in the starting lineup for the fourth-straight match, with four or more of those being true-freshmen like Simpson and Strickland.
  • Following a 70-minute rain delay Thursday, East Carolina evened its record to 3-3 with a 2-1 victory over High Point. The Pirates took an early 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on an own goal and then scored in the 53rd minute from sophomore MF Lexi Miller for a 2-0 advantage. Miller received a pass from sophomore D Kelly Miller and drilled a shot from 27-yards out that hit off the hands of High Point's keeper and went into the net.
