Memphis, Tenn. - Catalina Foothills high school standout forward/midfielder Avery Dellheim has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the three-time defending Conference USA Champion University of Memphis women’s soccer program. Dellheim is the fifth of seven signees for the Lady Tigers 2010-11 signing class.

“We are extremely excited to have Avery join our program here at the University of Memphis,” head coach Brooks Monaghan said. “We believe she is extremely versatile. I have seen her play several different positions. I have seen her play up front, in the midfield and I have seen her play in the back. Coming in here with our program, I think she best suits us as an outside back. I think she will come in here and immediately give us depth at that position.”

Dellheim has played varsity soccer for the Catalina Foothills varsity soccer team for two seasons. The Tucson, Ariz. native helped the Falcons to the 2010 Arizona High School Regional Championship. Dellheim and her teammates are still in competition for the Class 4A Arizona State Championship, which began on Feb. 3rd. Dellheim has helped the Falcons reach the 30th ranked spot in ESPN’s Rise rankings. 

“Avery is extremely athletic and has very good skill,” Monaghan said. “She suits the needs of what we look for in the back, but at the same time, I think she can play up front and do a good job and be a very dangerous forward. It is always nice to add somebody with a lot of versatility and I think Avery brings that. Having said that, I think Avery will make us a better team in several positions.”


 

 

Dellheim has played club soccer for the Arizona Rush under the direction of Coach Chris Fernandez and Chris Sydney.  She has also been a member of the state ODP pool for two years and the region IV regional pool for one year.

Dellheim is the daughter of Dana and Susan Dellheim.
