SMU Women's Soccer Gears Up For C-USA Tournament
Oct. 31, 2008
TULSA, Okla. (SMU) - Freshman forward Logan May scored her third goal of the season to take over the team scoring lead, but it was not enough as the SMU women's soccer team fell, 2-1, in the regular-season finale Friday night at Tulsa. After the Mustangs and Golden Hurricane battled through a scoreless first half, Tulsa took a 1-0 lead when a pass from Hannah Taylor was deflected to teammate Allie Rapp, who scored in the 48th minute. But just under two minutes later, the Mustangs answered, when May drilled a shot from 20 yards out to tie the score, 1-1, in the 50th minute. The goal was May's third of the season, tying her with teammates Caitlin Carter and Mary Connally for the regular-season team lead, and gave her eight points this season, pushing her past Lauren Shepherd, Devon Herrman and Kaitlyn Eidson for the overall points lead. Tulsa got the game-winner from Emily McElrath in the 70th minute off a corner kick. The Mustangs now prepare to head to Houston, where the Conference USA Championship will be played Nov. 5-9 at Rice Soccer Stadium.
