Tulsa Women Golfers Tee-Off at NCAA Regional Thursday

Erie, Colorado - The University of Tulsa women's golf team begins play at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf West Regional on Thursday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is one of three regional tournaments to decide the 24 teams that will advance to the NCAA Championship finals.
The regional tournaments run from Thursday to Saturday, May 10-12. Tulsa is part of the West Region that will compete at the par-72 Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colorado. Eighteen holes will be played each day.
Defending national champion UCLA headlines the teams at the West Regional. In addition to UCLA, the top eight seeds are LSU, North Carolina, Colorado, California, Pepperdine and UC Davis.
Tulsa is making its 33rd national tournament appearance and in the 20 years of the NCAA regional format Tulsa is making its' 17th regional and fifth in a row. Tulsa looks to advance to the NCAA Championship Finals for the first time since 2008.
Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional to the championship finals this season
The Hurricane received Conference USA's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional Championship after delivering a 13-stroke victory at the C-USA Championship in Gulf Shores, Alabama. All five Tulsa golfers placed among the top-13 individually at the league event.
Tulsa is led by Conference USA's Golfer of the Year Kristina Merkle and fellow first-team all-C-USA selection Marita Engzelius. Merkle has placed among the top-6 in eight of nine tournaments for the Hurricane this season, while Engzelius has turned in top-25 performances eight times and has three finishes among the top-10. Engzelius is coming off of a third-place performance at the C-USA Championship, while Merkle finished that event in fifth place.

The championship finals will be held May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee and will be hosted by Vanderbilt University.
