Tulane Wins C-USA Women's Golf Championship With Record Score

GULF SHORES, Ala. - No. 34 Tulane won the 2014 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship with a tournament-record 54-hole 8-under 856 (281-291-284) at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club (par 72/6,145 yards) on Wednesday. Fabiola Arriaga of UTSA won individual medalist honors after carding a 9-under 207 to tie the C-USA Championship individual record for 54 holes.
The Green Wave carded a final-round 284 (-4) to defend their title and capture the program's sixth C-USA championship. Gemma Dryburgh lead Tulane, finishing second overall with a 211 (-5), just ahead of teammate Emily Penttila who placed third with a 213 (-3). For their efforts, both players were named to the 2014 Conference USA Women's Golf All-Tournament Team. Rounding out the scoring for the Green Wave was Silvia Garces who tied for 16 at 220 (+4).
Arriaga fired a final-round 2-under 70 to clinch individual medalist honors. The senior never trailed during the tournament, shooting a career-best-tying 68 on Monday and a 69 on Tuesday. Arriaga totaled 13 birdies during the three-round championship, and led the field in both par-4 scoring (-3, 3.90) and par-5 scoring (-7, 4.42). The win marked Arriaga's second outright victory and 15th top-10 placement of her career. Her play, along with teammate Taylor Newlin who tied for seventh at +1 (217), helped to pace the Roadrunners to a 2-over 866 second-place finish (286-292-288).
