IRVING, Texas - Rice, SMU and UTEP returns to the hardwood after a holiday layoff Friday. Rice hosts WAC-bound UTPA at Tudor Fieldhouse, as the Owls return from an eight-day break to begin a stretch of three games in five days. The Owls (6-4) are playing their sixth game of a 13 game stretch that has 12 games in Texas. The Mustangs leave the DFW metroplex for the first time this season as they travel West to compete in the Surf 'N Slam Classic in San Diego, Calif., Dec. 28 and 30. The Mustangs (8-3) take on San Diego in the first round and will face either No. 14/13 Oklahoma State or Harvard Sunday. UTEP plays host to Sam Houston State. The Miners (10-1) have won five straight games. The contest will be the first of two in three days for UTEP, who will wrap up non-league play at home vs. UTPB Sunday.
