IRVING, Texas -
Junior guard Olivia Grayson scored a game-high 17 points and freshman forward Tiffany Dale posted the first double-double of her career with 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench as Tulane cruised past Louisiana-Lafayette, 75-40, on Thursday afternoon at Earl K. Long Gym. Tulane scored the first points of the game on a pair of Jamie Kaplan free throws and never trailed all day. With the win, the Green Wave concluded their slate against in-state opponents a perfect 7-0 and improved to 9-2 on the year.
After taking a 27-21 lead into the locker rooms at halftime, Marshall was unable to close out the game and lost 62-54 to Furman. The defeat is the first loss since falling to Ohio on November 19. Marshall ended a six-game win streak and dropped to 7-3. Junior center Leandra King led the Herd during the contest with 11 points and eight rebounds, while combining for a season-high four blocks. Senior guard Alaya Mitchell followed with 10 points, six of which came from the charity stripe. Mitchell also led the team in assists with five. Despite missing the Herd's leading rebounder in Erica Woods due to illness, Marshall out-rebounded the Paladins 49-44, with 20 of the boards being offensive grabs.
Memphis (9-3) shot just 25.4 percent from the field and hit just three field goals in the last 10 minutes of the game in a 58-48 loss at Missouri (9-1). The loss is the second straight for Memphis, who shot 17.6 percent from the floor in the second half. Senior guard Brittany Carter finished as Memphis' leading scorer with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but struggled in the second half after running in to a screen. Senior post Jasmine Lee added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Memphis out-rebounded Missouri 55-50, but gave up 16 offensive boards. Memphis will break for the holidays, then will return home to close out its 2011 non-conference slate, Friday, Dec. 30th, when Big East foe Seton Hall comes to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
