ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team concludes its busy week of three games in six days when the Knights travel to Florida Gulf Coast for Saturday's 7:05 p.m. matchup. The Knights (4-8) return to Fort Myers for the first time in four years looking for their first win in program history against the Eagles (6-4).
UCF has momentum on its side after overcoming an 18-point deficit for a thrilling comeback win over South Alabama on Wednesday. Three Knights scored in double figures in the contest and the team posted its third-straight game of less than 10 turnovers - a season best during the Joi Williams era.
Moreover, UCF's defense has pestered its last three opponents into committing an average of 22 turnovers per game and has cleaned up by scoring 63 points off turnovers in the past three contests.
FGCU has won four of its last five games, including back-to-back road wins at Virginia Tech and Richmond. The Eagles have won 16 consecutive games at Alico Arena dating back to last season. The streak currently ranks ninth in the nation.
The reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament champions are No. 9 in the latest 2012-13 CollegeInsider.com Women's Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The team has had just one head coach since its inception in 2001: Three-time A-Sun Coach of the Year and 2012 Kay Yow National Coach of the Year, Karl Smesko.
Saturday's game will mark the Knights' final outing until the New Year. Fans can tune into Scott Adams' audio broadcast of the game via UCFAthletics.com.
Season tickets, which start at only $30, are currently available by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com.
