Dec. 17 W-Basketball Results & Highlights
Dec. 17, 2012
IRVING, Texas - Junior transfer Keena Mays scored 23 points with 11 rebounds in her first game at SMU to lead the Mustangs to a 76-56 win over Louisiana-Monroe in Moody Coliseum Monday night. By the time the first half ended, Mays, a Mansfield Timberview graduate, was out-scoring the Warhawks 15-14. Playing in her first game since last December, Mays went 9-of-19 from the floor and 3-of-6 from behind the arc. She also had four steals, three assists and two blocks. SMU improved to 7-2 on the season, winning its last two games by more than 20 points after holding each opponent to less than 14 points in the first half.
Despite three scorers in double figures and a career night from sophomore forward Stephanie Taylor, UCF could not hang on for the win. The Knights (3-8) had a second-straight season-low output in their 53-49 loss to Presbyterian (6-6) at UCF Arena. Taylor lit up the floor all night in her first start of the season with career highs in points (11), rebounds (10) and blocks (six). Taylor's six blocks are the most by an individual player in the Joi Williams era and ties for eighth in the UCF record book for a single-game performance. She was joined by fellow double-digit scorers Gevenia Carter and Briahanna Jackson, who netted 15 and 10 points, respectively.
