KAYLA THORNTON, UTEP
6-1, JUNIOR, FORWARD / EL PASO, TEXAS / IRVIN HS
Thornton posted her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds in the team's 52-50 win at previously unbeaten Kansas State Sunday. She scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning point on a free throw after an offensive rebound. Thornton had a put-back off a missed free throw by Anete Steinberga to tie the game for the second time at 50-all with 1:02 left to play. The junior then came up with a defensive rebound and raced coast-to-coast on the way to being fouled to set up the game-winning free throw. Her presence on the court also aided UTEP to a 26-16 advantage in points in the paint and a 47-38 cushion for rebounds.
