BATON ROUGE, La. (Tulane Media Relations) -
Sophomores Whitney Bibbins and Danielle Blagg both scored a team-high 13 points off the bench and senior forward Brittany McDonald added a career-high 11 as the Tulane University women's basketball team defeated LSU, 66-64, in overtime on Sunday afternoon at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
With the win, Tulane improves to 7-1 on the year and remains undefeated in non-home games as the Green Wave are now 5-0 in contests played away from Devlin Fieldhouse. The victory was also the third in a row for Tulane against LSU and the Green Wave extended their winning streak against in-state foes to 15.
Tulane held a 26-23 lead at halftime, but the Green Wave found themselves down by six at 46-40 with 9:38 left to play in regulation. A McDonald free throw tied the game at 53-all to send things into overtime, and the Lady Tigers appeared to take control of the contest as a three-point play by Bianca Lutley broke a 55-55 tie and a pair of free throws by Theresa Plaisance put LSU on top 62-57 with 2:43 left to play.
From there, Tulane scored nine straight points to take control of the game and were able to run out the clock following an LSU layup with one second to play. Down by five, the Green Wave got things going with a layup by Janique Kautsky, and Jamie Kaplan drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 1:29 to go to tie things up. Tiffany Dale gave Tulane the lead for good with a layup and Bibbins iced it away with a pair of free throws.
