IRVING, Texas - League leaders Tulane and UTEP suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday night. For Tulane, it was a tale of two halves and when the final horn sounded, they were no longer undefeated as they dropped a 70-65 decision to Auburn in Devlin Fieldhouse.

The Green Wave (5-1) shot 55.6 percent from the field in the opening half - including five 3-pointers - to take a 39-23 lead into the locker room at halftime. After the break, however, the Tigers (5-2) scored the first 12 points of the second half and outscored Tulane 9-3 over the final two minutes to emerge victorious.

UTEP was dealt a tough 69-68 defeat by I-10 rival New Mexico State at the Pan-American Center. The Miners (5-1) were in control for most of the contest but could not find a way to put away the Aggies (4-2). There were five lead changes in the final 1:21 of the game, with the final one courtesy of a pair of free throws by NM State's Danesia Williamson with 12 seconds to play. UTEP pushed the ball up the court after Williamson's second conversion but it was unable to get a shot off before time expired. The Miners took great care of the ball with only nine turnovers while also making 17-of-19 at the free-throw line.

Southern Miss (3-2) withstood a pair of furious comeback efforts in earning its first road win of the season with an 88-71 win over Florida A&M Wednesday night. Senior guard Tanecka Carey scored a career-high 39 points on 15-of-22 shooting that included a record tying seven threes. Jamierra Faulkner recorded a double-double with 14 points and dishing out 12 assists. Jerontay Clemons chipped in 10 points.
