IRVING, Texas - Conference USA has named Kristine Vitola of UTEP as its Player of the Week while UAB's Kayla Anderson has been tabbed as Freshman of the Week after season opening games. Vitola contributed her first career double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while shooting 71.4 percent from the floor as the Miners defeated Loyola Marymount, 79-51. Anderson averaged 13 points, four rebounds and also shot 71.4 percent from the field in UAB's 72-54 victory over Austin Peay. This is the first career honor for both players.

Vitola notched her first career-double double with 21 points and 12 rebounds as UTEP opened the 2012-13 season with a 79-51 victory over Loyola Marymount at the Don Haskins Center Saturday. In addition to it being the initial double-double since joining the program, Vitola also set career standards for points (21) and boards (12). She hit on 10-of-11 free throws, also personal bests and made 5-of-7 shots from the floor (71.4 FG%), including 1-of-2 from beyond-the-arc. This is the first C-USA weekly award of Vitola's career.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
KAYLA ANDERSON, UAB
6-1, FR., F / HOOVER, ALA / HOOVER HS
In her Blazer debut, Anderson made an immediate impact as she scored 13 points in the team's 72-54 win over Austin Peay. She also played a pivotal role in the team's strong start with seven first-half points and a perfect 2-for-2 mark from the field in the first half in only six minutes of action. Anderson shot .714 (5-for-7) percent from the field and .600 (3-for-5) from the free throw line. This is her first career weekly award.
