IRVING, Texas -
At 10-3 in Conference USA action, Tulane is currently one game ahead of Memphis (9-4) and would hold any tie-breaker over the Tigers courtesy of the head-to-head win. Tulane also holds a three-game lead over SMU, East Carolina and Houston - who all currently sport a 7-6 league record. With a pair of wins this week, the Green Wave would earn a first-round bye in the 2010 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship, which is slated to start on Monday, March 8, in Tulsa, Okla.
C-USA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK & STATISTICS
While Thursday's win over Memphis gave Tulane sole possession of first place in the Conference USA standings, it also allowed the Green Wave to become the first league team this season to surpass the 20-win plateau. At 21-5 following a 2-0 week, Tulane has its first 20-win season since the 2006-07 season when they went 26-7, won the Conference USA regular-season championship and advanced to the second round of the WNIT. In the 34-year history of Tulane women's basketball, the Green Wave have now posted nine 20-win seasons and all of them have come under head coach Lisa Stockton.
Tulane ranks second in the league in points per game (70.4), just one member of the squad averages more than 11.0 points per game (Chassity Brown at 13.8 ppg). For the year, however, six players average nearly 8.0 points per game. After Brown, junior forwards Danielle Nunn and Tiffany Aidoo are next with identical 10.3 averages, followed junior point guard Roshaunda Barnes at 9.1, freshman guard Olivia Grayson at 8.5 and sophomore center Brett Benzio at 7.9.
