Women's Basketball Prepares for UTEP

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women’s basketball returns to the Cam Henderson Center to face UTEP on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
The Thundering Herd is 7-15 (1-8 C-USA) after taking two losses this past week on the road to UCF and top team in the league, SMU.
The game against UTEP marks the 12th contest in Marshall women’s basketball history to be played on Valentine’s Day. The Herd is 5-6 all-time on V-Day, last playing on the holiday against Toledo during the 2003-04 season.
Marshall is led by Shay Weaver, who is averaging 9.5 points per game and is averaging 2.41 three-pointers per game, ranking her No. 55 in NCAA. Chukwuka Ezeigbo leads Marshall on the boards with 6.4 rebounds and also has a team-high 29 blocks.
The Miners are 18-4 (6-3 C-USA) after defeating Southern Miss and taking a loss to Tulane last week. UTEP ranks No. 11 in the nation in field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to just a 33.5 shooting percentage. Kayla Thorton leads the team with 15.0 points per game and also totals 8.3 rebounds per game. Anete Stenberg follows with 14.1 points per game.
This will be the ninth meeting between the two teams and UTEP leads the all-time series 5-3. The Herd took a 64-56 in El Paso, Texas last season, but held a four-game win streak in the series before last year’s defeat.
