IRVING, Texas - UCF hopes to get back on track in its televised home matchup against Marshall Thursday at 7 p.m. UCF's first televised home game in two years will air on Fox SportSouth. Although the overall series is tied, 8-8, the Knights (7-14, 1-6) have won five of the last six meetings against the Thundering Herd (7-13, 1-6). Marshall heads to Orlando fresh off its first conference win of the season. The Herd currently lead C-USA in 3-point field goals (5.6 per game) thanks in part to leading scorer Shay Weaver, who is the league's queen of 3-point field goals with 2.6 per game.
SMU takes on UAB in Moody Coliseum at 7 p.m. The Mustangs conclude the homestand against Marshall Sunday at 2 p.m. before playing back-to-back road games. SMU has designated Sunday's game as its annual breast cancer awareness game in conjunction with the Play4Kay initiative. The Mustangs earned votes in both the USA TODAY/ESPN nad AP Top 25 Polls after beating UTEP 82-73 on the road to remain perfect in Conference USA, improving to 7-0 and 16-4 overall. The win also extended SMU's win streak to eight games, matching the second longest in school history.
Winners of four straight, East Carolina (15-5, 5-2) looks to extend that streak when it takes on Houston (9-11, 3-4) at Hofheinz Pavilion at 7 p.m. (CT). The Pirates and Cougars will face off for the 12th time in program history and Houston leads the all-time series 9-2. The Pirate defense has been solid this season as it has held opponents to 54.0 points per game to rank in the top 50 in the NCAA. Additionally, ECU is averaging 13.1 steals per game which leads the conference and ranks seventh in the nation. The Cougars are 8-4 at Hofheinz Pavilion this season and are looking to snap a three-game losing streak in which they fell to UTEP (65-54), SMU (58-54), and Tulane (74-56).
Tulane (16-4, 5-2) looks to maintain its hot streak when the Green Wave plays host to UTEP in Devlin Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. The team is riding the crest of a two-game winning streak after posting 57-55 and 74-56 road wins over UCF on Jan. 31 and Houston on Feb. 2, respectively. The game against the Miners is the first of two for Tulane during the week as the Wave will play a nationally televised contest at Tulsa on Sunday at 2 p.m. UTEP (17-3, 5-2) is looking to bounce back from an 82-73 loss to SMU Sunday in El Paso, Texas. As a team, the Miners are averaging 67.5 points, 45.3 rebounds, 14.4 assists, 7.7 steals and 2.4 blocks per contest. Thursday's game marks 17th meeting between Tulane and UTEP on the hardwood, and the Miners hold a 9-7 lead in the all-time series.
