IRVING, Texas - Senior Anete Steinberga has been named Conference USA Women's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 18.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as UTEP opened league play with victories at Tulsa and against East Carolina. The Miners have equaled the best start in program history at 14-1.

C-USA Freshman of the Week accolades go to Memphis' Asianna Fuqua-Bey as she averaged a double-double. She accounted for 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds as the Tigers went 1-1 last week. Fuqua-Bey set back-to-back career highs in rebounding and equaled her personal-best in scoring as she netted 14 points in the win over Southern Miss. She also finished that game with a personal-best 11 boards.

Steinberga put together back-to-back solid performances to help lead UTEP to a 2-0 start in Conference USA play and equal the program's best overall start at 14-1. She averaged 18.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in 23.0 minutes of action. Steinberga also shot 50.0 percent from the field (12-of-24) and was a perfect 12-of-12 at the free throw line in victories at Tulsa and against East Carolina. The senior started the week off by scoring 18 points, grabbing three rebounds and shooting 66.7 percent from the field (6-of-9) in just 18 minutes of action at Tulsa. She recorded 14 of her 18 points and grabbed her three boards in the second half. Against East Carolina, Steinberga netted 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds in 28 minutes of action. She was 6-of-15 from the floor (40.0 percent), while going 6-of-6 at the charity stripe for the second consecutive game. This is Steinberga's first Player of the Week honor this season and UTEP's third.

Fuqua-Bey averaged a double-double of 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for Memphis. She shot 53.3 percent from the field and set career highs in rebounds in both games. She made her second start of the season and finished with a career-best 10 rebounds and scored seven points at Houston. In a home win against Southern Miss, she stepped in for Nicole Dickson at the four spot when Dickson went to the bench with two first-half fouls three minutes into the opening stanza. Fuqua-Bey scored 14 first half points to help the Tigers build a 37-21 halftime lead. She reset her personal best with 11 boards and matched her career high by scoring 14 points. She also shot 83.3 percent from the free-throw line for the week, hitting 5-of-6 freebies. This is her first Freshman of the Week honor and Memphis' third consecutive award.
