W-Basketball Conference Schedule Tips-Off Wednesday

IRVING, Texas - League leader and defending champion UTEP opens the 2013 Conference USA women's basketball schedule at Tulsa Wednesday, Jan., 9 inside the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The conference opener will be streamed live at http://www.conferenceusa.com/allaccess/?live=1 starting at 7 p.m. CT.
UTEP (12-1) owns a seven-game winning streak spanning the entire month of December. The Miners are led by a trio of players averaging double-digit points, including junior forward Kayla Thornton with 14.4 ppg, senior forward Anete Steinberga with 13.2 ppg and sophomore guard Chrishauna Parker with 10.8 ppg. Thornton also has a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game, Parker has 51 assists, Destine LaFountain has 11 blocks, and Thornton and junior guard Kelli Willingham have 19 steals apiece.
The Hurricane (5-8) is led by senior guard Taleya Mayberry who averages 19.6 points per game and owns a team-high 52 assists and 37 steals. Freshman guard Kelsee Grovey nets 9.5 ppg, while senior forward Tiffani Couisnard averages 9.1 ppg and a team-best 8.5 rebounds per game, and has a team-leading 10 blocks. Junior forward Loren McDaniel adds 7.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest.
This will be the 29th meeting between the two teams, as the Miners have an 18-10 advantage in the all-time series. UTEP has won the last 12 meetings, and 15 of the last 18.
