Women's Basketball Falls Just Short At Tulsa

TULSA, Okla.- Rice fell 49-45 to Tulsa on Sunday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Jessica Goswitz led the Owls with 12 points.
The Owls came out of the gates with a 7-0 run, holding the Golden Hurricane scoreless until the 15:50 mark of the first half. Tulsa tied the game briefly at 8, before Rice took the lead again with a Jessica Goswitz 3-pointer, and did not trail again until the second half. Rice took a 23-18 lead into the locker room at halftime.
After Goswitz hit a 3-pointer on the first possession of the second half, Tulsa went on a 12-2 run to take a 30-28 lead at the 15:12 mark of the second half. Neither team gained much of an edge until the final minute, when Taleya Mayberry scored a game-icing layup with 25.1 seconds to play, to give Tulsa a 48-45 lead. Rice missed a 3-pointer on the ensuing possesion, and Kadan Brady hit a free throw for Tulsa to put the game out of reach.
Jessica Goswitz went four-of-eight from 3-point for her third double digit scoring game of the season and first since Nov. 20.
Christal Porter scored 10 points and added in seven rebounds. She had her highest-scoring game since Jan. 20.
Jessica Kuster reached double figures in rebounds for the third straight game, grabbing 12 boards and scoring seven points.
Megan Palmer had a career-high for a Conference USA game with 10 rebounds, and scored eight points for the Owls.
Nakachi Maduka led the Owls with four assists.
