Women's Basketball Defeats C-USA Foe Rice, 61-45

NEW ORLEANS - Senior Janique Kautsky and Tyria Snow scored 15 points each as the Tulane University women's basketball team defeated Conference USA foe Rice, 61-45, on Thursday evening in Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Owls out-rebounded the Green Wave, 40-31, but Tulane scored 22 points off of 20 Rice turnovers and used 13 steals to tally 16 fast-break points to come away with the win. In victory, Tulane completes the regular-season sweep of Rice to improve to 18-5 overall and 7-3 in C-USA play. The Owls, meanwhile, fall to 10-13 on the year and 2-8 in league action.
As a team, the Green Wave shot 46.4 percent from the field (26-of-56) while holding Rice to a .327 clip (18-of-55). While Tulane was out-rebounded, the Wave outscored the Owls in the pain, 26-12.
Sophomore forward Tiffany Dale joined Kautsky and Snow in double figures with 10 points to go with a team-leading six rebounds. Sophomore guard Jamie Kaplan led all players with seven assists while senior guard Olivia Grayson had a solid all-around performance with eight points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals.
Tulane returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 17, when the Green Wave play host to C-USA foe Houston at 2 p.m. in Devlin Fieldhouse.
