ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team saw its three-game win streak stall in its 64-46 loss to UAB in Thursday's conference opener. Despite the Knights' penchant for pulling off comeback wins this season, the team couldn't find a way to come close enough to threaten the Blazers' edge throughout the game.
Senior Gevenia Carter led UCF (6-9, 0-1) with 11 points for her sixth-straight game of double digits. Sophomore forward Stephanie Taylor grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, including six offensive, while junior Kiana Morton provided some quality minutes off the bench with a season-high six points, two steals and a blocked shot.
UCF's shooting woes allowed UAB (10-4, 1-0) to jut out to a 15-3 lead in the first eight minutes. The Knights converted just 3-of-31 in the first half, but generated some production from the free throw line to trail 26-13 at the break.
The teams played a much tighter second half - UAB outscored UCF by just five points - but the Knights had dug themselves in too deep to recover.
Up next, the Knights travel to SMU for a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. eastern. Fans can tune into Scott Adams' free audio broadcast of the game via UCFAthletics.com and any mobile device.
