Nine C-USA Men's Tennis Players Garner ITA National Preseason Rankings

IRVING, Texas - Twelve Conference USA tennis student-athletes received Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national preseason rankings as announced by the governing body of collegiate tennis. Tulsa's Arnau Brugues, the 2007 C-USA Men's Tennis Player of the Year, claims the highest overall ranking, coming in at No. 3, while SMU's Alex Skrypko is ranked No. 39. For the women, Marshall's Kellie Schmitt is the lone ranked singles player at No. 48. Schmitt was the 2007 Women's C-USA Tennis Player of the Year.

Following Brugues and Skrypko in the men's rankings is Ricardo Soriano of Tulsa at No. 67. Teammates Ralph Knupfer and Christoph Mueller of Rice are next at Nos. 81 and 86, respectively. Amrit Narasimhan of Memphis rounds out the ranked men's singles players at No. 98. C-USA has four ranked men's doubles teams, led by Knupfer and Mueller at No. 37. Tulsa's Ross Cunningham and Andy Connelly are ranked No. 40, while teammates Ricardo Soriano and Brugues follow at No. 51. Skrypko and Robin Fahgen of SMU appear at No. 54 on the initial list.

In women's doubles, C-USA features two tanked doubles squads. SMU's tandem of Natalia Bubien and Claire Rietsch are the top ranked team at No. 34, while Schmitt and teammate Karolina Soor appear at No. 59.

The ITA will release team, individual and doubles regional rankings later this fall.

Fall C-USA tennis action begins this weekend and will be highlighted by the league's 24 selections to the men's and women's ITA All-American Championships in late September.

C-USA men's and women's team tennis action will begin this spring and conclude at the 13th annual C-USA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships. The women's event will be in Houston, Texas hosted by the University of Houston from April 17-20, while the men's event will take place in Dallas, Texas on the campus of SMU from April 18-20.
