IRVING, Texas (SMU) – Arturs Kazijevs was tabbed as the Conference USA Co-Freshmen of the Year, the conference office announced today. Earning All-Conference Second Team selections were Kazijevs and Gaston Cuadranti in singles, while the team of Kazijevs and Tobias Flood were named to the doubles team.
In his first year on the Hilltop, Kazijevs was a standout for SMU, leading the team in singles winning percentage with a 12-6 record, earning 10 of his wins at the No. 3 position. While teaming up with Flood at the No. 2 doubles position, the two compiled an 11-4 record from Feb. 18 through the end of the season.
Cuadranti was tied atop the team lead in wins, recording a 12-7 overall record. The junior earned 11 of his wins at the No. 1 position, including a 6-2, 6-2, defeat of No. 64 Haig Scheiderman of Columbia. He finished the season with a four-match win streak which included wins over Johnny Grimal (No. 32 Memphis), Casey Watt (No. 43 Notre Dame) and Sam Garforth-Bles (No. 47 Rice).
