Box Score

Jonathan Chang and Tommy Bennett ground out wins in super tiebreaker sets, while Adam Gustafsson won in straight sets, but 25th ranked LSU used a win a doubles and straight sets wins in three singles matches to down 56th ranked Rice 4-3 at W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium in Baton Rouge on Thursday.

The matchup between the Owls (2-5) and Tigers (4-1) had originally been scheduled for Sunday, but was moved to Valentine's Day due to rain in the Baton Rouge area.

Once the two teams finally took to the courts, LSU quickly grabbed the opening point by winning doubles matches on courts 2 &3. Gustafsson and Bennett, playing in their second consecutive match in the No. 1 position, were holding a 6-5 lead over Roger Anderson and Tam Trinh when their match was halted after the point was clinched.

Chang, Gustafsson and Bennett each won their opening sets in singles, but while Gustafsson closed out his match with a win in the second set, the other two Owls had to rebound from losses in the second to take the tiebreakers and close the final margin to 4-3.

Chang dropped a second-set tiebreak to LSU's Olivier Borsos but rebounded to win at 1 with a 10-8 win in the super tiebreaker. Bennett, who claimed his opening set over the Tigers' Mark Bowtell thanks to a tiebreak, absorbed a 6-4 loss in the second set to claim the Owls' final point with a 10-3 win in the super set.

The Owls will be back at home on Sunday when they take on 68th ranked TCU at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium. First serve is scheduled for 1:30.
